I thought I’d introduce you to the characters that make up our little farm.
First, there are the chickens. We’ve got about 30 of them. There are a few special ladies, though, that I’ll introduce you to.
There’s the newest one to the flock, Molly. She is a Silkie and is the sweetest.
Then we have Daisy. She’s a Buff Orpington.
Next there is Featherfoot. She’s a Blue Cochin. We got her from some friends. She’s a survivor and a sweetheart.
Then there is Bernice. I am not entirely sure what breed she is. She was given to us by a friend whose son had hatched her for a school project. She got too big to care for, so they sent her to us. She is beautiful.
Last, but not least, is my husband’s favorite. This is June. She’s a Blue Andalusian.
Here are some of the rest of the girls.
Then, of course, there are the pigs. We’ve got 3 we are going to breed and 2 that will go in our freezer. We have Rico, our Duroc boar. He has a happy dance he does when we go out to feed him and he loves for us to pet him.
And there are the girls, Thelma and Louise. They are Hampshires and are so sweet. Although, Thelma is definitely a little more wild than Louise.
Then, we’ve got our two feeder pigs, Emmy and Harold. Emmy is a Blue Butt and Harold is a Duroc/Hampshire/Blue Butt mix.
A farm/homestead isn’t complete without it’s protectors. Meet Abby, our Australian Shepherd. She chases off any unwanted visitors (including the UPS man sometimes – sorry).
Charlie, our Lhasa Apso. He’s definitely the guardian of the farm (or so he’d like to think).
Who could forget our protector of unwanted rodents? This is Wilson. Got a problem with mice? Too many bunnies? He’s your man.
